The Ontario CRISM Node Team (OCRINT) is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of members including academic investigators from institutions across Ontario, community-based intervention providers, system/policy representatives, and people with lived experience.
As one of five Nodes of the pan-Canadian
CRISM Network, OCRINT:
Conducts CRISM- and/or Ontario-based research into evidence-based interventions for substance matters towards improved intervention options and systems
Shares and translates knowledge and evidence to support the enhancement of prevention and treatment services regarding substance matters/addiction to decision-makers and service providers
Enhances collaboration and communication between researchers, service providers, policymakers, and those with lived experience both regionally and across the country
The OCRINT lead and coordination hub is housed within the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at the
Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Canada’s largest research and treatment hospital for mental health and substance use problems, and led by Dr. Jürgen Rehm, Senior Scientist in the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research and in the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute at CAMH. He is Professor and was the Inaugural Chair of Addiction Policy in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Rehm is a leader in generating and analyzing the scientific data needed to inform clinicians and policy-makers of strategies to reduce alcohol-, tobacco-, and other drug-related harm. His recent research has more and more included interactions between socio-economic status, poverty and substance use, including analysis of policies and interventions with respect to reducing or increasing inequalities. His work has been awarded with numerous awards and prizes, most importantly, the Jellinek Memorial Award (2003), the European Addiction Research Award (2017), and the (Inaugural) Kettil Bruun Society Award for Advancement of International Research Collaboration (2021).
Dr. Rehm has been member of various committees and task forces, currently of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Drug Dependence and Alcohol Problems (since 2006), of the WHO European Region Regional Director’s Advisory Council on Innovation for Noncommunicable Diseases (since 2020), of the National Guideline for Clinical Management of Alcohol Use Disorders (co-chair since 2021), theLancet Public Health Commission on Gambling (since 2021), or the Technical Advisory Group for Alcohol of the Pan-American Health Organization (since 2020).
